Chelsea vs Tottenham (5-2): Perfect WSL Start Continues Despite Controversial Equaliser and Absence of Lauren James

Chelsea kept their perfect start in the Women’s Super League with a 5-2 win over London rivals Tottenham on Sunday.

The team faced challenges, missing Lauren James because of an injury and dealing with Spurs’ equalizer in the first half. Goalkeeper Hannah Hampton thought she had saved the shot. However, Chelsea pushed through and claimed all three points before the international break.

Key Moments in the Chelsea vs Tottenham

The most talked-about moment came midway through the first half after Maika Hamano had given Chelsea the lead.

Spurs full-back Amanda Nilden noticed Hampton moving to her left for a cross and decided to shoot. The assistant referee said Nilden’s shot crossed the line. This frustrated Hampton. She received a yellow card for protesting. Suddenly, the game Chelsea vs Tottenham was tied.

Nilden scored an own goal by flicking Guro Reiten’s corner into her net. Despite this, the match stayed competitive until Chelsea scored late. Johanna Rytting Kaneryd netted a stunning volley in the 70th minute. Summer signing Sandy Baltimore followed up when Reiten’s penalty hit the post. Even when Eveliina Summanen scored a great free-kick for Spurs, Rytting Kaneryd finished strong with a fifth goal.

This win gives Chelsea four victories in their first four WSL games. They aim for their sixth straight league title and their first under new head coach Sonia Bompastor.
