Jean-Michel Jarre to Headline 2024 Paralympics Closing Ceremony

French electronic music legend Jean-Michel Jarre will take center stage at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris on September 8. The event, set to honor over 4,400 athletes from 168 delegations, will be held at the iconic Stade de France and is expected to be a grand finale that celebrates both the sporting achievements of the Paralympians and the rich cultural heritage of France.

The closing ceremony will include the traditional athletes’ parade, followed by the symbolic handover of the Paralympic flag from Paris to Los Angeles, the host city for the 2028 Games. After these formalities, the stadium will transform into an open-air celebration featuring an electrifying lineup of performances, with Jarre headlining the event. Known for his pioneering contributions to electronic music, Jarre’s involvement adds a unique cultural flair to the closing festivities.

The musical lineup will also include a diverse array of French electronic artists, showcasing the best of the country’s vibrant electro scene. Performers such as Agoria, Alan Braxe, Anetha, Boston Bun, Breakbot & Irfane, Busy P, Cassis, Chloe, Chloé Caillet, and DJ Falcon, among others, will take the stage, ensuring a night filled with energetic and eclectic performances. This celebration of French talent will provide a fitting soundtrack to the conclusion of the Paralympics.

Artistic direction for the ceremony is helmed by Thomas Jolly, with Victor le Masne serving as the musical director, and Romain Pissenem responsible for the festival design and staging. Jarre, a veteran of large-scale performances, has expressed his admiration for Pissenem, describing him as one of the world’s leading show creators. Their collaboration is expected to deliver a visually stunning and musically captivating experience.

Jarre’s performance will showcase his innovative sound and pay tribute to French electronic music’s experimental roots. He has often spoken about the influence of his mentor, Pierre Schaeffer, who encouraged him to blend unconventional sounds in his compositions. This approach will likely be reflected in his performance, which promises to be a highlight of the ceremony.

The closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Paralympics will be more than just a celebration of sport; it will be a celebration of music, culture, and the resilience of the human spirit. As the world bids farewell to the Games, this unforgettable event will leave a lasting impression, highlighting the best of France and the global Paralympic movement.
