IOC Announces Inaugural Esports Olympics: Saudi Arabia to Usher in a New Olympic Era in 2025

IOC Greenlights First Olympic Esports Games

The IOC has approved the inaugural Olympic Esports Games. The event is set for 2025 in Saudi Arabia. The proposal received unanimous support from the IOC Executive Board.

Event Details and Future Prospects

Exact details, including the date and location, are still pending. IOC President Thomas Bach commended Saudi Arabia for hosting. He is confident in the event’s success.

“Our Esports Commission has collaborated with the esports community,” Bach stated. “This highlights the Olympic brand’s appeal to youth. The Saudi Arabian National Olympic Committee offers valuable esports experience. This partnership upholds Olympic values.”

The decision was made during the 142nd IOC session as the Paris 2024 Olympics approaches. The IOC has been exploring esports since 2018, and this approval marks significant progress.
